Show time !

Yesterday i went to Montfort with four horses. It was like 30 degrees the whole day, so we all were sweating a lot !!
My five year old jumped a clear round in the one meter, his rideability was already better then the last time. Next time he can jump the 110cm class.
Illuster did also a nice clear round in the 110cm and got placed, Corvette was also double clear in the 120cm.
My new horse also showed some improvement in the 130cm class, and we are starting to understand each other better and better ! I really like her !!!

Today the horses got to go for a hack and on the fields. Tomorrow I am gonna ride them all at home and on tuesday i am normally doing a show.

I hope you all a nice start for the week !!

The summer is finally here !

I promised to write a post about how i train my younger/older horses. At the moment i have two five year olds, four six year olds, one seven year old and one ten year old horse. With all of my horses i do a lot of dressage work to make the horses stronger in their body and the rideability better. I think it is really important that i have a good control when i jump the course in the shows, and you cant expect that the horses will work at the show if i does not work at home. One of my ground rules is repeating, when you train something a lot, it will start to come from it self step by step.

With my younger horses i normally jump once a week a course to give them some experience. I also do few times a week some work with poles and cavalettis.
My older horses i do mostly exercises at home, since they are more experienced to jump a course. The exercises what i do is like in-and-outs or lines with different distances.

One thing i also like to train my horses with is to lunge them with a pessoa system. It is good for them to work also sometimes with out a rider on their back. Especially for stiff horses it's a really good aid, it makes them more elastic and loose in their body.

The younger (5-6yo) horses work normally five times a week, and the rest two days they go on the field and hand walking. The older ones work six times a week.
All of them come twice a day out from the box so either its riding/lunging in the morning and in the afternoon field/walker or the other way around.

There was also a question about how i take care of the legs after i have been riding or jumping.
Some horses i use bandages for the night or just cool the legs after riding. My favorite stable boots are from "back on track" and I like to use them after jumping with the older horses if needed. I never really used any cooling gels, i rather cool the legs with clay or ice boots. I don't use these things with horses who don't need it, especially with younger horses. my main idea is that a good young horse doesn't need these things too early.

Summary of the last few days...

Last week there was not a lot shows around here, so i decided to just go and train with two new horses to a different ring just to see how they are behaving before taking them to a show. The other ones got to do a lot of dressage work at home.
We have been having a really bad weather in Belgium for the last few days so the horses could not go at all to fields or in the walker, which means double work for me to hand walk them since they have to come twice a day out from the box.

On monday morning my mom and my friend Kersti arrived to Dusseldorf, so i picked them up with Chips.
It is always nice when they come and visit me because they help me a lot with the horses.

In the beginning of the week we clipped few horses and we still have few to go.. I have at the moment nine horses to ride so enough of work ;)

Yesterday there was a show in Montfort, i took six horses with me.
In the 90cm i jumped for the first time a 5yo Gelding by Jetset D. He was super brave and jumped an amazing clear round. My boyfriend used to jump him before and he already did some 110cm classes so it was not really difficult for us !

In the 110cm i jumped three horses,  Iluster and Hilary and a new horse called Calle. The all did a good job and jumped nice everything around.

I decided to jump Corvette in the 120cm instead of the 110cm. He was also super and we only got one unlucky fault on the last fence.
I also jumped another new horse in the 120cm and the 130cm. She also jumped super and i was happy from our first courses together.

I was super happy from all of the horses, it is always nice to see that they are improving in their work.

This week on saturday I am going to jump a show in Dewarre a with all of the horses. Lets hope for a better weather then :)

Have a nice week,

xx Rebecca

Just a Casual Day...

Today it has been a typical monday at the stable. I started my day with taking V to his work at 7am, always a pleasure to wake up one hour earlier than you actually have to !
When i got to the stable i started to ride. Most of the horses were fresh after a relaxed day off yesterday. Mean while i was riding the blacksmith was there to shoe one horse, and just before lunch a transport company picked up one horse who is leaving to America.

Already at this point the day felt really long after a heavy weekend.
In the afternoon V came and help me with three horses...

Corvette got some serious work to do, and i need to concentrate to work him properly every day to get him more loose and fit !

Iluster did once again a super job and showed a lot of improvement.

With Hilary we just did some basic dressage work, to make her more calm and relaxed.

On Wednesday Im gonna do the training show in Oppglabeek, so tomorrow at least few horses will jump at home.

xx Rebecca

Extra hours needed !

The last few days has been busy enough.
My cousin and her boyfriend were staying at our place from monday until thursday, so i was busy with showing them around here and at the same time tacking care of all the horses.
I also had been promising my friend to take care of her horses at home from thursday until sunday when she is away in Geesteren for a show. So at the moment i have ten horses alone at two different stables.
In the weekend Im not going to a show, but most likely there is a show on tuesday for most of the horses. On sunday Im gonna go and look the Grand Prix in CSI 3* Bonheiden where my boyfriend is jumping. He already did some good results there, yesterday he was fifth in the 140cm speed class and today he did a nice clear round in the ranking class and ended up 11th.
So i can be a proud girlfriend !!

Here is some pictures from the week !

Lazy Sunday

Normally on sundays i don´t work the horses, either they go for a hack or just for few hours in the field. But since my boyfriend also had a show today and he was gonna be away the whole day i decided to ride them who did not do a show yesturday.
The ones who were with on the show got to keep a well earned day-off and spend it on the field.

My plan for next week is still a bit open since my cousin and her boyfriend are coming to visit us for few days, but normally there will be a show in the end of the week.

I hope you all have a nice sunday evening,

xx Rebecca

A busy day with the horses !

Today we had a training show in Koningsbosch so it was an early wakeup today. We left from the stables at 8.30 and all the morning duties at the stable had to be done before that.
As planned,  i took today with me three young horses.

First to go was one of my favorite horses, a 6 yo gelding by Larino. He did a good job in the ring and was clear. He always wants to do his best!

Next one to go was a 7yo mare, she also did a nice clear round and i was again satisfied. There is always something you can do better, but i have not been riding her too long so we already have a good start.

Last one but not the least one to go was one of my boyfriends grandmothers own breedings, a 6yo gelding by Erco. Illuster suprised me with beeing super brave on only his fourth course ever. We got one unlucky mistake on fence number five. I still need to get to know him a bit better so i can ride more relaxed.

After getting home there was still three horses waiting to get ridden.

Long day, now im gonna take a warm relaxing bath and enjoy the rest of the evening with my loved ones... :)!
