Show time !

Yesterday i went to Montfort with four horses. It was like 30 degrees the whole day, so we all were sweating a lot !!
My five year old jumped a clear round in the one meter, his rideability was already better then the last time. Next time he can jump the 110cm class.
Illuster did also a nice clear round in the 110cm and got placed, Corvette was also double clear in the 120cm.
My new horse also showed some improvement in the 130cm class, and we are starting to understand each other better and better ! I really like her !!!

Today the horses got to go for a hack and on the fields. Tomorrow I am gonna ride them all at home and on tuesday i am normally doing a show.

I hope you all a nice start for the week !!

The summer is finally here !

I promised to write a post about how i train my younger/older horses. At the moment i have two five year olds, four six year olds, one seven year old and one ten year old horse. With all of my horses i do a lot of dressage work to make the horses stronger in their body and the rideability better. I think it is really important that i have a good control when i jump the course in the shows, and you cant expect that the horses will work at the show if i does not work at home. One of my ground rules is repeating, when you train something a lot, it will start to come from it self step by step.

With my younger horses i normally jump once a week a course to give them some experience. I also do few times a week some work with poles and cavalettis.
My older horses i do mostly exercises at home, since they are more experienced to jump a course. The exercises what i do is like in-and-outs or lines with different distances.

One thing i also like to train my horses with is to lunge them with a pessoa system. It is good for them to work also sometimes with out a rider on their back. Especially for stiff horses it's a really good aid, it makes them more elastic and loose in their body.

The younger (5-6yo) horses work normally five times a week, and the rest two days they go on the field and hand walking. The older ones work six times a week.
All of them come twice a day out from the box so either its riding/lunging in the morning and in the afternoon field/walker or the other way around.

There was also a question about how i take care of the legs after i have been riding or jumping.
Some horses i use bandages for the night or just cool the legs after riding. My favorite stable boots are from "back on track" and I like to use them after jumping with the older horses if needed. I never really used any cooling gels, i rather cool the legs with clay or ice boots. I don't use these things with horses who don't need it, especially with younger horses. my main idea is that a good young horse doesn't need these things too early.

Summary of the last few days...

Last week there was not a lot shows around here, so i decided to just go and train with two new horses to a different ring just to see how they are behaving before taking them to a show. The other ones got to do a lot of dressage work at home.
We have been having a really bad weather in Belgium for the last few days so the horses could not go at all to fields or in the walker, which means double work for me to hand walk them since they have to come twice a day out from the box.

On monday morning my mom and my friend Kersti arrived to Dusseldorf, so i picked them up with Chips.
It is always nice when they come and visit me because they help me a lot with the horses.

In the beginning of the week we clipped few horses and we still have few to go.. I have at the moment nine horses to ride so enough of work ;)

Yesterday there was a show in Montfort, i took six horses with me.
In the 90cm i jumped for the first time a 5yo Gelding by Jetset D. He was super brave and jumped an amazing clear round. My boyfriend used to jump him before and he already did some 110cm classes so it was not really difficult for us !

In the 110cm i jumped three horses,  Iluster and Hilary and a new horse called Calle. The all did a good job and jumped nice everything around.

I decided to jump Corvette in the 120cm instead of the 110cm. He was also super and we only got one unlucky fault on the last fence.
I also jumped another new horse in the 120cm and the 130cm. She also jumped super and i was happy from our first courses together.

I was super happy from all of the horses, it is always nice to see that they are improving in their work.

This week on saturday I am going to jump a show in Dewarre a with all of the horses. Lets hope for a better weather then :)

Have a nice week,

xx Rebecca
